The Walking Stool

Walk further distances with more independence. A stick that becomes a chair for those much needed rests during a walk.

The Challenge

"Design a product that does not appear as an aid for disabled users, will increase the case owners mobility and specifically help reach greater distances, which will improve independence"

Our Co Designer

The co designer, Joanne, has been dealing with Multiple Sclerosis for over 16 years. She has experienced a variety of struggles over this time that have significantly affected her daily life. Her most significant issue is limited function in her left leg.

The Case

In this phase the challenge was explored. We also worked closely with the case owner to identify her daily struggles and needs.

Idea Generation

Following the assessment of the current situation, we started ideating and working towards a final concept.

Prototype

Once the final concept was created, a partially functioning prototype was developed. Afterwards it was tested in an iterative manner together with the case owner.

Testing and Evaluation

In order to find out to what extend the prototype meets the requirements and user needs, testing was done.

Reflection

This section explores questions such as "to what extent was the product a success?" and "how could the concept be expanded in the future?"
